Meeting of the Arab Union of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers
The Arab Union of Pharmaceutical manufacturers held a meeting in Cairo  in the presence of representatives from 14 Arab countries and representatives from 40 pharmaceutical Companies from Egypt.
They reviewed the activities of the Union to serve the pharmaceutical industry in the Arab world and to provide safe and effective medication at a good price for the citizens and how face the monopoly of international companies for drugs.
It was addressed by Dr. Ahmed Gowaili  General secretary of the Arab Economic Unity, Dr. Adnan Badwan President of Arab Union of Pharmaceutical manufacturers , Dr. Magdy Hassan, Chairman of the Drug Holding Company, Dr. Kamal Sabra, Assistant Minister of health  for Pharmaceutical Affairs, Dr. Mustafa Ibrahim, member of the Arab Union of Pharmaceutical manufacturers, Dr. Makram member of the Union and Dr. Adnan Al-Kilani General secretary of the Union
They stressed on  the need for alliances between pharmaceutical companies in various Arab countries in order to obtain the best offers from foreign companies in the manufacture of new drugs especially in the field of biotechnology and Natotechnology and attention to critical pharmaceuticals industry as cancer drugs and the acquisition of HIV, and others, with the need to share all the Arab and Egyptian companies in the Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Pharmaceutical grouping to work in a unified research and development project benefiting from the experiences of migratory and local scientists with the need to link research centers with pharmaceutical companies.
The meeting also focused on the importance of production quality, marketing programs and post-marketing systems to find out the actual position of Arab pharmaceutical industries.
The Egyptian , Tunisian , Syrian , Jordanian and Saudi Arabian representatives displayed problems and obstacles that correspond to the pharmaceutical industry in each country and ways to overcome them.
The meeting also decided to call for the Alliance of Arab factories to exploit the excess capacity for the production of other varieties especially that Arab factories covering only 50% of pharmaceutical consumption Arab nation and to ensure that the alliances Arab cooperation and integration rather than competition in export to countries of Eastern Europe and African countries
